15-time World Champ to boost darts at grassroots
Darts legend Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor is the new Ambassador for the UK’s largest cue sports operator, Rileys, who are moving into darts.
Rileys are opening Darts Zones at most of their 128 pool and snooker clubs nationwide, and Taylor will advise on the development of the new hi-tech facilities.
He will also work with Rileys to discover new talent, and build up the game from grassroots.
Taylor said: “I’m delighted Rileys have asked me to be their Darts Ambassador. Rileys are making a massive contribution to the game of darts.
“The new Darts Zones are really top class. They have six or eight lanes, Championship boards and quality lighting.
“Rileys are giving darts players every facility they need. And no queuing to get onto the oche! With pubs all over the country closing everyday this is a real shot in the arm for my game.”
Rileys are opening another five Darts Zones in the next two months at their clubs in Coventry, Burton-on-Trent, London Victoria, Chester and Aberdeen.
Chief Executive Maurice Kelly said: “We are delighted to sign Phil Taylor as our Darts Ambassador. By a very long way he is the biggest name in world darts and a real legend.
“Rileys and Phil Taylor are going to put the wow factor into darts. He is already helping to make our Darts Zones really buzz.
“We provide first class bar, food, and smoke-free facilities for thousands of members.”
Taylor is joining forces with Rileys other Darts Ambassador, former ladies world champion Anastasia Dobromyslova, to spearhead Rileys darts development plans.
This year Taylor has already launched Darts Zones Oxford, Norwich and Brighton.
Ten Darts Zones opened in 2009 at Canton (Cardiff), Gillingham, Croydon, Bootle (Liverpool), Chorlton (Manchester), Hull, Edinburgh, Wolverhampton, Solihull and Worcester.
