Lakeside 08 Review - Day 6

MARTIN ADAMS 5-4 ROBERT THORNTON
Defending champ Martin Adams turned the screw to topple tournament sensation Scot Robert “The Thorn” Thornton 5-4 in a 114 minute thriller. Wolfie’s fans howled in delight as Adams twice battled back from behind to keep a tight grip on the trophy he regards so highly.

Lakeside 08 Review - Day 5

SIMON WHITLOCK 4-1 FABIAN ROOSENBRAND
Wizard of Oz Simon Whitlock continued his spellbinding run to conjure up an impressive 4-1 victory over teenage Dutch sensation Fabian Roosenbrand.
In a rare second round game without any seeds it took the Aussie number one just 41 minutes to despatch the left hander from Holland.

Lakeside 08 Review - Day 4

DARRYL FITTON 4-0 GARY ROBSON
Dazzler Darryl Fitton, the ninth seed slashed his odds with a sparkling 32 minute 4-0 drubbing to tumble Gary “Big Robbo” Robson.
The two off-stage friends served up a sporting encounter but it was all one way traffic as Fitton drove home seven 180s in his pulverising demolition of the eighth seed from Northumberland.

Lakeside 08 Review - Day 3

CO STOMPE 3-0 CARL MERCER
After completing a gruelling 26 hour trip to get to Lakeside, Canadian Carl Mercer crashed out after just 33 minutes of darts, losing to popular Dutchman Co Stompe.
The former tram driver who throws darts with a familiar jerking style produced a workmanlike performance including 78 and 80 finishes and narrowly missing a 170 checkout to win through to the next round in front of his adoring “orange army” of fans.

EDWIN MAX 0-3 SIMON WHITLOCK
Wizard of Oz Simon Whitlock conjured up a spellbinding performance to topple 15th seed Edwin Max of Holland 3-0 in just 33 minutes.
The Aussie number one showed glimpses of the form that had taken him to the last four in 2005 in dashing the title hopes of debutant Max.

MARK WEBSTER 3-1 IAN JONES
Top seed Welshman Mark Webster survived double trouble to topple playoff qualifier Ian Jones 3-1 in 32 minutes at the Lakeside BDO world championships.
The defending World Cup and Europe Cup singles champion needed just six minutes to make his mark on the match against the debutant from the West Midlands. He missed doubles tops for a stirring 120 checkout in the first leg, recovering to take it with his next throw to sneak the leg against the throw.

Lakeside 07 Review

Predictions can be funny things, can’t they? Prior to the 2007 edition of the BDO World Championships, there was much talk about what the present and the future held for Lakeside’s version of the greatest darting show on earth. To listen to some observers, the era of English darting dominance at Frimley Green was all but over, the stars of the show in 2007 and beyond would all be Dutch, and we were poised for the spectacular breakthrough of the next generation of darting talent from the Low Countries, who would sweep aside all comers and make the Lakeside stage their very own. What we would be witnessing, in short, would be the future.
