Gibraltar Open 08

WINS FOR LOUISE CARROL AND FEDERICO POZO

The 2008 Gibraltar Open Singles titles went to Spain’s Federico Pozo who defeated fellow countryman Jose Escudero by 4 legs to three in a very closely fought final. England’s Stuart Foale hit a 9 darter on stage in his Semi-final against Escudero but it was not enough to prevent a 4-3 defeat. Stuart shared third place with Gibraltar’s Dylan Duo.

The Women’s Singles was an all England final with Louise Carroll getting the better of Lorraine Morris by four legs to one. Third place was shared by Margaret Ferguson from Scotland and Linda Jones of England.

2008 Thialf Darts Trophy Cancelled

2008 Thialf Darts Trophy Cancelled - due to be held on May 31st, the event has been cancelled following a sponsor withdrawal. The event will not be replaced due to lack of time but a further players championship event in Holland may be added to the calendar later this year.

Norway Open 08

NORWAY OPEN 2008: WINS FOR CARINA EKBERG AND WILLY VAN DER WIEL

Dutchman Willy van der Weil won the yesterday’s Norway Open beating Scotland’s Paul Hanvidge.  The losing Semi-Finalists were John Henderson and Garry Thompson. On his way to his maiden International Open truimph he defeated John Henderson, Stephen Bunting and Dave Chisnall.

Sweden’s Carina Ekberg secured the Women’s title with a win over Scotland’s Louise Hepburn. Third places went to Hege Løkken (Norway) and Janni Larsen (Denmark.

Oskar Lukasiak (Sweden) won the Youth Singles beating Norway’s Robin Lundemo Eidet. The losing Semi-Finalists were Thomas Kielberg and Rune Veraas Iversen, both from Norway.

Swedish Closed Championship

The Swedish Closed Championships were played on 14-16 March at Kista just outside Stockholm. All the major results can be seen below.

German Nationals 08

The 28th German National Championship were played yesterday in Kirchheim.

Winner of the Mens Singles was the current German No. 1 Andree Welge. Andree dominated the event and won his second national title, the previous win came in  2002.

In the final he won 3:1 (2:0,2:0,1:2,2:0) against Stephan Schneider. Kevin Münch and Marc Chwialkowsky shared third place.

Monique Lessmeister, the current German No. 2 won her first national title with a 2:1 (2:1,1:2,2:0) win over Nicole Hartmann. German No. 1 Bianka Strauch shared 3rd place with Claudia Papendick.

Scots Open Singles 08

SCOTTISH OPEN SINGLES: WINS FOR ANASTASIA AND GARRY THOMPSON

Russia’s Anastasia Dobromyslova, who plays her darts for Welsh County Clwyd, added a new title to her collection when she beat Dutch Star Francisca Hoenselaar by 4 legs to 2 in today’s final. The men’s event produced a huge shock when Garry Thompson, a Yorkshire County player who is little known on the international circuit, got the better of Robert Thornton and Martin Adams before beating Shaun Greatbatch by 5 legs to 1 in the final.

Greman Gold Cup 08

Irina Armstrong overcamse Carla Molema, winning the deciding set 4-2, to claim the ladies title. Steve West is the mens champion after beating Andree Welge 3-2 in the final.

The Ladies Final produced darts of high class with both ladies hitting 2×180. However it was Irina who produced the finishing power to take the title.

WDF Vegas Open 08

MARS AND YOUNG TAKE TOP HONOURS AT LAS VEGAS OPEN

In the first of two all-American 501 Finals, CAROLYN MARS easily defeated first-time finalist, SUZIE HALL, by a score of 4-0. Losing Semi-Finalists were BRENDA ROUSH (USA) and England’s MARGARET SUTTON. Having previously won the 501 title in 2003, MARS also captured the 501 Women’s Pairs event, with partner, GAIL PAYNE.

Belgian Gold Cup 08

BRUNO RAES AND PATRICIA DE PUETER WIN THE BELGIAN GOLD CUP 2008

Bruno Raes, who disappeared from the international dart scene after the 1996 Embassy, won the Belgian Gold Cup title with a very close win against Harry Famaey. Bruno, for many years a regular in the national team, is only 40 years old and is now looking forward to making a return to the international circuit. The losing semi-finalists were Stefano Gaspari and Tony Martinez.

Spring Cup 08

ANDREE WELGE AND RILANA ERADES WIN SPRING CUP SINGLES

Germany’s Andree Welge and Netherland’s Rilana Erades booked their places at the Winmau World Masters when they took the singles titles at the Spring Cup in Altlengbach, Austria yesterday.
