Cash Converters World Cup of Darts Day 1 Evening Results
Posted on February 4th, 2012
PRE-TOURNAMENT favourites England are on the brink of crashing out of the Cash Converters World Cup of Darts after Canada’s Ken MacNeil and John Part defeated Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis in their Singles games on Friday night.
Taylor went down 4-3 to MacNeil, giving him echoes of a defeat in the second round of the 2010 World Cup of Darts to Spain when he was partnered by James Wade.
Double World Champion Lewis has taken Wade’s place in the England team in this event, but was unable to take victory in his own Singles clash with Part, who took out a brilliant 140 finish to win their game in a deciding leg.
The results mean that Taylor and Lewis must now win Saturday afternoon’s Doubles game between the nations to force a sudden-death leg at the Alsterdorfer Sporthalle in Hamburg.
Reigning champions Netherlands, meanwhile, face a winner-takes-all Doubles clash with Austria on Saturday after Raymond van Barneveld and Mensur Suljovic picked up respective wins for their countries. Read the rest of this entry »

Cash Converters World Cup of Darts Day 1 Afternoon Results
Posted on February 4th, 2012
SOUTH AFRICA knocked 2010 semi-finalists out of the Cash Converters World Cup of Darts as the tournament began in Hamburg on Friday afternoon, while Canada set up a second round clash with England.
The Spanish pair of Antonio Alcinas and Carlos Rodriguez had been the surprise package of the inaugural World Cup of Darts in December 2010, seeing off both England and Scotland in reaching the last four.
However, they succumbed to a 5-2 defeat as Devon Petersen and Shawn Hogan propelled South Africa into a second round clash with the Scots at the Alsterdorfer Sporthalle in Germany.
Petersen, who faced Scottish number one Gary Anderson when he reached the second round of the World Championship a month ago, was inspired as he hit three 180s, with a 111 finish from Alcinas not enough to aid Spain’s challenge.
“They did brilliantly last year but we fancied our chances and the format of this tournament makes it an opportunity for everybody,” said Petersen.
“We’ve done well here to beat Spain and it’s a good boost for us, so we’ll have a good go against Scotland now, it’s another challenge for us both.”
The Canadian team of three-time World Champion John Part and Ken MacNeil set up a second round contest with the English duo Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis by defeating Hungary 5-3. Read the rest of this entry »

Cash Converters PDC World Cup of Darts Preview
Posted on February 2nd, 2012
THE second Cash Converters World Cup of Darts begins in Germany on Friday, as Raymond van Barneveld and Vincent van der Voort bid to take the title back to the Netherlands.
The tournament was introduced to great success in December 2010, with the top two ranked players from 24 nations defying a foot of snow to compete in north-east England.
The hosts’ team of Phil Taylor and James Wade were stunned by Spanish pair Antonio Alcinas and Carlos Rodriguez in the second round of the event as the colourful pair went on to reach the semi-finals.
They would be denied at that stage by the Netherlands, as van Barneveld and his then partner Co Stompe went on to take victory with a triumph against Wales in the final.
That success is van Barneveld’s only televised triumph since 2007, but after losing in the first round of the World Championship before Christmas he is determined to bounce back in style at the Alsterdorfer Sporthalle in Hamburg this weekend. Read the rest of this entry »
