World Matchplay 08 Review - Day 1

WAYNE MARDLE produced his ‘get out of jail free’ card to defeat Mark Dudbridge 11-9 on the opening night of the 2008 Stan James World Matchplay.

Mardle looked set to crash out of the tournament when Dudbridge - who had also hit a 160 finish - overturned a 7-5 deficit with four straight legs to move to the brink of victory in a thriller.

World Matchplay 08 Preview

THE 15th Stan James World Matchplay begins on Sunday, with 32 players battling for a record £300,000 at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens.

James Wade, the current world number three, will be defending his title at the Winter Gardens, with Phil Taylor bidding for a ninth World Matchplay win in the seven-day tournament.

World Matchplay 07 Review - Day 6 Final

JAMES WADE claimed the first major title of his career with an 18-7 win over Terry Jenkins at the Stan James World Matchplay on Saturday night.

Wade, 24, picked up the £50,000 winners’ cheque with a sensational performance at the Winter Gardens to see off the in-form number five seed.

World Matchplay 07 Review - Day 6 Semi Finals

TERRY JENKINS and James Wade will contest the 2007 Stan James World Matchplay final on Saturday, after eight-time champion Phil Taylor sensationally exited the tournament in the semi-finals.

Taylor, the defending champion, suffered a shock 17-11 defeat to Jenkins at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.

World Matchplay 07 Review - Day 5

Afternoon:
JAMES WADE’S bid for a second successive appearance in the final of the Stan James World Matchplay continued on Thursday afternoon as he joined Terry Jenkins in the semi-finals of the tournament.

Wade reached his first major final at the Winter Gardens 12 months ago, and a 16-11 win over Mervyn King kept him on course to repeat that feat in the quarter-finals.

World Matchplay 07 Review - Day 4

Afternoon:
DUTCH wonderkid Michael van Gerwen’s Stan James World Matchplay hopes were ended at the Winter Gardens when he lost 14-12 in a tie-break to Ronnie Baxter.

The 18-year-old took Blackpool by storm on Monday when he defeated Peter Manley in the first round, but he was denied a quarter-final place by a brilliant Baxter comeback.

World Matchplay 07 Review - Day 2

Afternoon:
JOHN PART announced his intentions at the Stan James World Matchplay with an impressive win over Alan Warriner-Little on Monday.

Part produced the best display of the afternoon session on Monday, hitting six 180s and averaged almost 95 in his 10-5 win over Warriner-Little.

World Matchplay 07 Review - Day 1

KEVIN PAINTER and Roland Scholten came through tie-break thrillers to gain victories on the opening night of the Stan James World Matchplay - while 2004 finalist Mark Dudbridge was dumped from the tournament by Wayne Mardle.

An entertaining first night saw Painter, the 2004 World Championship runner-up, show his battling qualities to see off qualifier Adrian Gray.
