The PDPA Players Championship is an Order of Merit system where prize money earned over a number of events (at least 25 in 2008) makes up players’ standings.

Previously the Players Championship had little bearing on the other major tv tournaments but in 2008 it formed the qualifying criteria for several majors and will also culminate in an end of season championship with the top 32 players qualifying for the main event.

The culmination of the 2008 Players Championship is a televised finals held for the first time in January 2009. Staged at The Circus Tavern, televised by ITV, and running over the weekend of Jan 30th to Feb 2nd, it will see the top 32 players compete for a £200k prize pool.

The eventual winner will take home a cool £50k. The format is a straight knockout played in legs race format.
