The Dubai Darts Masters returns to our screens on Thursday from 17:00 live on Sky Sports (Eurosport broadcast last years event).

  • Michael van Gerwen (1) Vs James Wade
  • Adrian Lewis (4) Vs Barney
  • Phil Taylor (2) Vs Wright
  • Simon Whitlock (3) Vs Chisnall

The semi-finals will be between

  • Michael van Gerwen /James Wade Vs Adrian Lewis/Barney
  • Phil Taylor/Wright Vs Simon Whitlock/Chisnall

Michael van Gerwen (1) Vs James Wade – 7-0-9 (Last 10: 5-0-5)

The latest head to head dominates in van Gerwen’s favour, so is there any surprise he is JUST ¼ to beat the Machine – James Wade? Best match odds:

  • MVG – 1/4 Betfred
  • Wade – 10/3 Bet365

We have not seen Wade on TV for a while now and MvG comes into this off the back of last week’s Premier League Final loss. This time last year van Gerwen started the event as the newly crowned Premier League Champion and pocketed his second title in a week.

Can the young Dutchman recover from his loss and hoover up victory in Dubai? Wade has a deliberate style of darts, and when he is on the money, he is on. We think the heat may be a factor in this game but we cannot back Mighty Mike at super short odds.

A race to ten MvG is 5/6 to win by four or more. We know Wade loves tops and double ten, so why are Coral risking 5/6 on Wade to check out 100 or more? Interestingly at the time of writing we were unable to find any maximum markets, and we suspect the reason for this is that compilers are taking the unknown of the heat factor into consideration. Recommendation:

  • Wade – Over 99.5 match checkout – 5/6 Coral

Phil Taylor (2) Vs Wright – 9-1-1 (Last 6* 4-1-1) *Games before cast back to 2011

Could Wright take another win off Taylor?

Best match odds:

  • Taylor – 2/5 Paddy Power
  • Wright – 9/4 Marathonbet

The 9/4 is HUGE on Wright as he has a point to prove. Taylor is short, although the format will suit. Wright has the chance to derail the Power. The pair met twice in the Premier League with Wright winning the first encounter early on and a draw most recently.

The tide is changing, and backers of Taylor cannot back this with confidence. Wright is even money with a 2.5 leg head start with Totesport but there is no value to be had in this match. If we were pushed for a bet, over 16.5 legs may be the call with a few firms. Summary:

  • Wade – over 99.5 checkout – 5/6 Coral
  • Chisnall/Whitlock – Over 16.5 legs – 1/1 Skybet
