Darts competition can give you the Power!

Aspiring darts players across the country are stepping up to the oche in a bid to do their local pubs proud – and qualify for mentorship from 15-time world champion Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor.

Redtooth Darts, a national competition powered by Protégé Events, will see the sport’s icon Taylor test players’ skills with weekly challenges.

The inaugural Redtooth Darts season started on Sunday September 2 and runs until November 10, with more than 200 pubs across the UK already signed-up to the tournament.

Entry to the competition is free to players and each venue will have its own league table, with the two top throwers from each progressing to knockout regional finals at local Riley’s Dart Zones.

Qualifiers will then compete in a 64 strong National Final in Leeds on December 9, when ‘the Power’ will coach the top 16 players and award them entry to Qualifying School for the Professional Darts Corporation Tour 2013.

The top two players at the National Final will then play a final match at Alexandra Palace during the 2013 Professional Darts Championships. The winner will win an all-expenses-paid trip to the World Cup of Darts in Hamburg, Germany in February 2013.

Martin Green, managing director of Redtooth, which also runs the country’s largest pub poker league, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for anyone with a passion for darts.

“Success in Redtooth Darts could not only lead to mentorship from Phil ‘the Power’ Taylor, but also provide the chance to join the professional circuit – a potentially life-changing opportunity, with prize money of £6million available. We hope it will inspire men and women of all ages to pick up the sport and give it a go in the familiar environment of their local pub.”
