The Artist – Lawrence Lustig/PDC
3x Second Round
Kevin Painter 4 v 3 Ronnie Baxter (3-1, 1-3, 3-0, 3-0, 1-3, 0-3, 4-2)
Colin Lloyd 4 v 2 Mark Webster (3-2, 3-0, 3-2, 0-3, 2-3, 3-1)
Raymond van Barneveld 4 v 1 Brendan Dolan (3-0, 3-1, 0-3, 3-2, 3-1)
Kevin Painter won the opening set of his second round clash with Ronnie Baxter 3-1, assisted by a string of missed doubles from The Rocket. The Artist hit 3 from 4 attempts as Baxter converted a woeful 1 from 7 to leave the door open.
A handful of maximums and an 11 dart fourth leg saw Baxter hit back and square the match as the man from Blackpool found some much needed accuracy on the outer segments that had earlier eluded him.
Painter kicked of the third set with a 151 checkout to break the Baxter throw, a double double 94 checkout secured the second leg (S18 D18 D20) before he fired in 116 to take the set without reply. Read the rest of this entry »

McCoy’s Premier League Darts Week 14 Preview Newcastle
Posted on May 10th, 2012
Five players will battle for the final two places in the McCoy’s Premier League Darts Play-Offs on Thursday as Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena hosts the final league night of the tournament.
Newcastle will host the climax of the 14 weekly rounds, which have been played throughout the UK and Ireland since February, with the final two places in the semi-finals alongside Phil Taylor and Simon Whitlock at The O2 on offer.
The tightest-ever Play-Off race sees World Champion Adrian Lewis, 2009 Premier League winner James Wade, Dutch favourite Raymond van Barneveld and this year’s two newcomers Kevin Painter and Andy Hamilton all still in contention to reach next week’s semi-finals.
Lewis knows that a win from his clash with Whitlock would guarantee him a Play-Off place, and Wade faces van Barneveld in another key contest, while the winner of the game between Painter and Hamilton could also sneak into the top four.
“I love pressure and I’ve always said that I’m a pressure player, so I’ve a chance to prove that now on Thursday,” said Lewis, whose defeat to Painter in Birmingham last week threw the Play-Off race wide open. Read the rest of this entry »

New World Order – The Winners and Losers from the World Championships
Posted on January 5th, 2012
As the PDC board select the competitors for this year’s Premier League, the fallout from the sensational 2012 World Championships is complete and whilst some will still be celebrating, others will be looking back at the tournament with nothing but regret.
The Winners
Andy Hamilton
Coming into the competition as a 200/1 outsider may have been a little harsh on a player as consistent as the Hammer, but considering he was in the same quarter as Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld next to no one gave him a chance of improving on his previous best performance of the semi-finals. However, Hamilton proved all the doubters wrong and battled his way to the final of the competition. This is reward alone, but throw a cheque for £100,000 and a subsequent place in the Premier League into the equation and you are left with a very happy Hammer.
Dave Chisnall
Chizzy Rascal may not have reached the latter stages of the tournament, but he did something that has truly put him on the darting map – beat Phil Taylor. Chisnall’s debut in the PDC World Championships couldn’t have dealt him a tougher second round draw but he prevailed with a resounding 4-1 victory and became the first man to turn off the Power at such an early stage since Kevin Spiolek in 1993. Crucially, the £15,000 he picked up also took him into the coveted top 32 for the first time. Read the rest of this entry »

Ally Pally Day 12 – After Session, Victory for Part, Wade & Huybrechts
Posted on December 29th, 2011
PDC big guns James Wade and John Part set up a tasty quarter-final clash at the Ladbrokes World Darts Championship with on Thursday afternoon as
World number three Wade picked up his second successive 4-0 victory in the £1 million tournament with a straight sets win over Steve Farmer which took the left-hander just 45 minutes to complete.
Wade dropped only one leg in taking the first two sets, and came from 2-0 down in each of the next two as he moved into the last eight for the fourth time in five years at Alexandra Palace.
“It wasn’t as easy as the scoreline suggests,” said Wade. “I made the most of my opportunities, and he gave me plenty.
“I’m looking forward to the next game against John because it will be a scrap, and I haven’t had one of those yet. I believe I’m ready for one and let’s see what I do, and I think I’ve got plenty in the tank.”
Part, meanwhile, joined Wade in the quarter-finals with a 4-2 defeat of in-form Kevin Painter, who took the game’s first set but fell 2-1 down as the Canadian hit a 161 finish in taking command. Read the rest of this entry »
