Emerging stars Michael Smith Ricky Evans will contest the PDC Unicorn World Youth Championship Final in May after the pair won through the £40,000 tournament’s early rounds in Barnsley last night.
The tournament featured players who competed on last year’s PDC Unicorn Youth Tour and a series of International Qualifiers, also saw both Smith and Kurt Parry hit 9 dart legs.
Smith went on to win five matches and secure his place in May’s final, which will be played during the McCoy’s Premier League Darts Play-Offs at The O2 in London.
The 22-year-old from St Helens dropped just one leg as he defeated Brandon Walsh, George Killington, Samuel Head and Dean Finn to reach the semi-finals with the 9 darter coming in the opening leg of his last 16 game with Head.
Smith then defeated County Durham’s Adam Hunt 6-3 to win through to the final with another fine performance – which comes only a week after he had reached the final of a Speedy Services UK Open Qualifier on the senior circuit.

Youth Tour Wins For Michael Smith & Keegan Brown
Michael Smith warmed up for his tilt at Phil Taylor in the PartyPoker.com World Grand Prix by winning two of the weekend’s three PDC Unicorn Youth Tour events held in Wigan.
Smith, who turned 22 last week, took his tally of wins for the year on the Youth Tour to five with his double success at the Robin Park Tennis Centre, seeing off Ricky Evans in Saturday’s opening tournament and Josh Payne in Sunday’s event.
He won seven games on his way to Saturday’s title in the year’s 16th Youth Tour event, seeing off Curtis Bagley, Darren Whittingham, Jake Patchett, Brandon Walsh, Lee Whitworth and Robbie Hewson before defeating Evans 4-1 in the final.
Smith was a 4-2 winner against Payne in Sunday’s Event 18 final, having whitewashed Hermie Van Orsouw and Nicholas Day in his opening two matches and also defeated Aden Kirk, Shaun Griffiths, Reece Robinson and Jack Hill in the event.
Smith had also reached the semi-finals of Saturday’s second event, losing out 4-1 to George Killington at that stage, with the £1,200 prize money for the weekend taking him to within £50 of Youth Tour Order of Merit leader Arron Monk – with a place in the William Hill Grand Slam of Darts on offer for the final table-topper. Michael Smith Wins the 15th PDC Unicorn Youth Tour event in Derby
Smith – who recently qualified for the Betfair World Matchplay, losing to Raymond van Barneveld in Blackpool – bounced back to claim Sunday’s £500 first prize, as he won Event 15 with a whitewash of Whitworth to earn his third Youth Tour victory of the year
Whitworth’s run saw him win through to his first Youth Tour final, and included a 4-3 semi-final win over Monk and victories over Josh McCarthy, Lewis Venes, Ben Songhurst and Joshua Richardson.
The results leave four-time event winner Monk clear at the top of the Youth Tour Order of Merit on £3,525 prize money won so far this year, with Smith now second on £2,650 ahead of World Youth Champion James Hubbard, who has won £2,600.
Lewis’ win sees him in fourth on £1,875, with Chris Aubrey, Sam Hill, Josh Payne, Keegan Brown, Jamie Landon and Ben Songhurst all now having passed £1,000 prize money this year. Read the rest of this entry »

Hubbard continued the form which saw him take the PDC Unicorn World Youth Championship title on Thursday by triumphing in the first of the weekend’s tournaments.
Hubbard following up his 6-3 defeat of Michael van Gerwen two days earlier by winnning a further seven matches to take the £500 first prize in the first of this weekend’s trio of Youth Tour events.
Hubbard began the day with whitewashes of Connor Durham and Dan Dean, before defeating Brandon Walsh, Ryan Harrington and Matthew Dennant to reach the semi-finals, where he overcame Keegan Brown 4-1.

Emerging star Michael Smith hit a nine-darter in the first day of the PDC’s inaugural European Tour event on Friday, as big guns Raymond van Barneveld, James Wade, Gary Anderson and Simon Whitlock joined him in the second round of the Austrian Darts Open.
St Helens-based Smith, 21, continued his impressive form in 2012 by achieving a perfect leg, his first in a senior event, in a 6-4 comeback win against Jamie Caven.
The youngster – who has one both a Players Championship and a PDC Unicorn Youth Tour event this year – trailed Caven 3-0 when he hit back-to-back 180s and finished 141 with treble 20, treble 19 and double 12 to complete the nine-darter, matching his achievement on the Youth Tour last year. ARRON MONK completed a PDC Unicorn Youth Tour double with a 4-0 whitewash of Michael Smith in Sunday’s Event Three final at the Moorways Centre in Derby.
Monk followed up his triumph in Event One on Saturday by taking the £500 first prize ahead of Smith, who had also taken victory 24 hours earlier, in Event Two, but was denied a double by the Basingstoke youngster.

Arron Monk and Michael Smith took victories in the opening two events of the 2012 PDC Unicorn Youth Tour in Derby on Saturday.
Saturday’s double-header at the Moorways Centre kicked off the £60,000-plus Youth Tour (the first two of 21 tournaments to be held across seven stand-alone weekends throughout the year). A third event will be held on Sunday as the opening weekend comes to a close.
Arron Monk, the 2011 Under-21 World Champion, took the £500 first prize in Event One, defeating James Hubbard 4-0 in the final with a fine performance, which he kicked off with a 150 finish to win the first leg and also included a 14-darter in the whitewash.
He also defeated Chris Aubrey, Michael Smith, Jamie Green, Martin Heneghan, Jamie Lewis and Adam Hunt in a high-quality display. Read the rest of this entry »

MICHAEL SMITH won his second professional title with victory in Sunday’s Spanish Darts Classic Players Championship in Benidorm, denying Justin Pipe a weekend double with a 6-3 win in the final.
The 21-year-old from St Helens had won a UK Open Qualifier last February in Barnsley, and picked up the £6,000 first prize from the second PDC ProTour event of 2012.
Having missed double 12 for a nine-dart finish during a defeat to Pipe during Saturday’s Players Championship, Smith gained revenge against the Taunton ace with a 6-3 win in Sunday’s decider at Benidorm’s Melia Hotel.
After edging two of the first three legs in the final, Smith secured the first break of throw with a brilliant fourth leg, hitting a 180 and taking out a 130 checkout on double five. Read the rest of this entry »

JOE CULLEN won his third PDC Unicorn Youth Tour event of the year, edging out Michael Smith 4-3 in Saturday’s final at the New Citywest Convention Centre in Dublin.
He dropped only three legs in the early rounds, defeating Michael Meaney, Marco van Rens and Adam Hunt before then enjoying a 4-0 semi-final whitewash over Youth Tour Order of Merit leader Michael van Gerwen.

MIGHTY MIKE’S PDC UNICORN YOUTH TOUR TREBLE
The Dutch ace followed up victories in Wigan and Crawley earlier this year by taking the £600 first prize in Derby, courtesy of a brilliant showing in Event 11.
He whitewashed fellow countryman Jimmy Hendricks as well as Wales’ Marc Evans in the early stages, and dropped only one leg against Leon Bailey and Ricky Evans in reaching the semis.
There, he overcame fellow countryman Rick Veugelers 4-1 and produced the same scoreline to win the final in style.
