The Power beaten by Birkenhead’s Pam Courts
Posted on November 26th, 2011
Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor suffered his worse defeat yet during his one-man roadshow at Rileys in Birkenhead on Wednesday night, losing four out of 10 matches, including one with the only female contender of the night Pam Courts.
Pam (51) who has just been picked to play darts for Merseyside County got some good practice in at the event before her first County match next week, beating the 15 times world champion in the final match of the night.
Delighted with her win Pam said: “It was amazing, his face was a picture when I threw that last dart.”
It didn’t seem to be Phil’s night from the start. After winning his first game against Paul Molyneux, the Birkenhead ‘challengers’ came back to win three out of the first six matches. By the end of the night the score stood at Phil Taylor six (6) challengers four (4).
The first win of the night came from 28 year-old Jamie Green, the son of Robbie Green, the world ranking number four, followed by 46 year-old Glyn Corus and 40 year-old Darren Hiles. Read the rest of this entry »

Taylor Roadshow Hits Loughborough
Posted on November 23rd, 2011
You’d think that after regaining his Grand Slam of Darts title in Wolverhampton Phil Taylor would take the following day off, but instead he hot-footed it over to Loughborough for an evening of darts at Rileys.
Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor publicly thrashed Gary Anderson 16-4 on Sunday to be crowned Grand Slam of Darts champion once again, but instead of resting and contemplating what to spend his £100,000 winning prize money on he was straight over to Rileys Loughborough on Monday evening as part of his one-man roadshow.
Rileys darts ambassador Phil has been travelling around the UK visiting a number of Rileys Darts Zones and giving punters the chance to challenge him on the oche.
Competition and raffle winners lined up with arrows in hand in a vain attempt to try to beat Phil, but to no avail.
There was a special surprise in store for one member of Rileys bar staff on the night; Unbeknown to him barman Joe ‘The Animal’ Wright, a huge Phil Taylor fan, had been set up by colleagues to play against The Power and he was totally taken aback when his name was called out to join Phil on the oche. Rileys BICC Masters Cancelled
Posted on October 18th, 2011
Please see below some disappointing news taken from the BDO website in respect of the Rileys BICC Masters, the ambitious tournament had promised a £14,800 prize fund with a £4k and £1.5k for the mens and ladies winners respectively.
The 2011 Rileys BICC Masters has had to be cancelled due to a shortfall in expected entries from the BDO counties.
“Despite a significant financial input from Rileys in sponsoring the event, and the best efforts of the BDO to encourage players to enter, it is a huge disappointment that we have had to cancel this event”, says Barry Gilbey, Chairman of the BDO.
“Needless to say, all those who have entered will have their entry fees returned.”
Howard Miller of Rileys says: “Despite the disappointment of the cancellation, Rileys remain a firm supporter of the BDO, and a meeting is planned shortly to discuss ways in which we can progress the partnership into 2012 and beyond”.

Phil Taylor – Beaten in Edinburgh
Posted on September 30th, 2011
Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor entertained the crowd at Rileys in Edinburgh last week on another leg of his one man roadshow at Rileys Dartszones across the UK.
Phil, the darts ambassador for Rileys, visited the Dartszone at Rileys Edinburgh on Wednesday 21st September.
As usual, 10 lucky competition winners got the chance to play darts against Phil, but this time there were 2 additional places up for grabs on the night as part of a charity raffle in aid of Cash for Kids. Raffle tickets were sold ahead of The Power’s appearance before two names were drawn out of the hat and the delighted winners were given the chance to play against The Power.
Phil was on a role, breezing through every leg against the challengers until it came to Rileys regular Paul Burrows (pictured) who turned the tables on the world champion and beat Phil fair and square in front of the cheering crowd.
After he’d played the competition and raffle winners, Phil stood facing the large crowd for a Q&A session. When asked about being beaten Phil said, with his tongue firmly in his cheek: “Yeah, I was a bit gutted to be honest…but what can I say…when I wake up in the morning I’ll still be 15 times world champion!”
The night ended with Phil signing autographs and posing for photographs, and chatting to his fans.
The evening at Rileys Edinburgh was part of the Phil Tayor roadshow, where Phil is appearing at a number of Rileys Dartzones across the UK. The next event will be on 21st October at Rileys Wolverhampton then November sees dates at Rileys in Exeter, Loughborough and Birkenhead.

Phil Does Colchester
Posted on September 15th, 2011
15-Times world champion The Power beaten……by Rileys Mickey Mac!
Tuesday night (13th September) saw the second leg of the Phil Taylor roadshow at Rileys Colchester, and one Rileys regular will be dining out on tales of the evening for a long time to come.
Phil, the darts ambassador for Rileys, challenged 10 people to play a leg against him and, as expected, the 15-times world champion came out triumphant in each leg. That was until Rileys regular Mickey Mac took to the Oche.
Mickey, who plays for Colchester Rileys superleague, managed to beat The Power in the one-leg competition. Phil had 8 left with 2 darts but he missed. Mickey had 74 required; first dart he hit 14, followed by a double top and with his final dart he hit double 10 to a resounding roar from the watching crowd. Phil took it all in great humour, congratulating Mickey before going on to beat the rest of the challengers.
The event was part of the Phil Taylor Roadshow currently taking part at a number of Rileys clubs across the UK. Read the rest of this entry »

Phil Congratulates Mawer In Mind Attempt
Posted on September 6th, 2011
Darts legend and Rileys ambassador Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor congratulated a darts team who scored a million and one for charity during his visit to Rileys Scunthorpe this week. For more information on the team behind the record breaking attemp click here.
The Scunthorpe eight led by professional player Dave Ladley were presented with a cheque by the Rileys darts ambassador during his one-man roadshow held at the Rileys sports bar on Monday 5th September.
The darts team from Scunthorpe set themselves a challenge in July to break the world record for scoring a million and one at darts by using the lowest number of arrows to raise money for the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust at Goole.
The team raised almost £2,000 and completed the challenge in just over 46 hours on 30th and 31st July by throwing 42,741 darts. Read the rest of this entry »

Guinness World Record Darts Marathon Attempt
Posted on July 17th, 2011
MAWER IN MIND MILLION AND ONE GUINNESS WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT
On the 29th July at 7pm an attempt to break the existing Guiness World Record for completing 1,000,001 taking the least number of darts (for charity), will be held at Rileys in Scunthorpe. Organised by Tony Mitchell who will be participating in his third million and one, and has played county darts for Cleveland and in 2008 qualified for the Televised UK Open. The other players involved in the fundraiser are:
Darren Coates – Humberside/Lincolnshire County player well known for heavy scoring when he’s on form.
Karl Forrington – excellent player on his day and was the first to sign up for this, a very good friend of Darren.
Dave Ladley – plays on the PDC Pro Tour and an excellent player who could spur them on.
Tony Broughton – another heavy scorer and has appeared at the UK Open in 2010 and 2011.
Dean Baker – one of Lincolnshires best for more years than he’d care to remember! – always at or near the top.
Darren Weaver – has played on the Pro Tour and is also capable of very heavy scoring.
Mark Wilson – very experienced player, he qualified for the UK Open in 2010 and can produce top quality darts .
Most importantly of all, the attempt will raise money for the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT) at Goole. Inspired by Darren Mawer; in August 2010 Darren and his Family flew to Turkey for a short family holiday , during the journey Darren suffered a Brain Haemorage, and was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery, over the next 5 weeks nobody knew if Darren would survive, thankfully he’s a fighter and he came through the dangerous time after the operations and they were able to fly him back to the UK .
Darren then spent several more weeks under the care of the NHS in Grimsby before he was able to be assessed and allocated a place at the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT) at Goole, when he went to the BIRT he was unable to walk and had no use of his left arm, however , 12 weeks later he was able to walk into the local school hall to watch his little girl in the Christmas play.
The funds raised from the darts marathon will be donated as a thank you to the BIRT for the fantastic work they did and are doing for Darren, his family and all of the other people that are in desparate need of their service.
If any of our readers would like to support the boys, they can donate via the just giving link below:

You can also find out more details at the Mawer in mind website and find regular Twitter updates from Tony @MaverickMitch, and search for them on Facebook! So no excuses.
DartsMad obviously wishes them the very best of luck………..

Both poker and darts are highly popular pursuits. The games are available online, in fact, that there are organizations dedicated to making sure the rules of video poker and online darts are conformed. Similar to darts having the World Darts Federation, among others, and poker has the Tournament Directors Association. These rules are put into place in highly competitive tournaments, in which as many as hundreds or even thousands of people compete for cash prizes as well as prestige.
