Here is an interesting idea from Gary and the team at GB Darts Promotions, a series of Grand Prix and Open darts tournaments over the course of 2012, culminating in a Grand Final where the top 64 players from the Order of merit and 8 wildcards compete for the extra special first prize. What’s so special about it? Well the eventual winner will recieve sponsorship to play either the BDO or PDC Circuit in 2013.

At the time of writing it is unclear what this level of sponsorship will be, and those who elect to take on the PDC boys will have to go through Q School if they are not already a tour card holder or PDPA associate member. Still it’s a great opportunity, and each individual event has a decent prize pool so tungsten excellence will be rewarded throughout the year.

The venue for the events will be Harlow Greyhound Stadium, Essex, in the purpose built darts room known simply as ‘The Venue’. We have previously participated in the Harlow Red Dragon Open, and have first hand experience of the organisation and facilities provided by Gary and Mick (The Venue), and we can assure you that it is first class.

What also makes this interesting is that players inside the top 24  of the PDC order of merit table as of January 3rd 2012 will be excluded from all events, giving those players who need a leg up a chance of cleaning up the big prize. Furthermore the Harlow Grand Prix diary doesn’t clash with other events, certainly the PDC Pro Tour, so expect to see many ‘faces’ at these events.

We will be keeping a close eye on the progress of the Grand Prix, as we are always interested in initiatives that bring something new to the tungsten table. We hope to be able to provide regular updates as the event unfolds.

Good luck to those who enter, below you will find more information, including dates, entry and prize information.
