World champion Michael van Gerwen is determined to “finish the job off” as he bids to add another major title to his impressive CV on Thursday.

The 25-year-old Dutch star is part of the final four aiming for glory on Premier League Darts play-off night at the 02 Arena in London.

Van Gerwen, who is sponsored by leading trade paint manufacturer Leyland Paints, qualified for the knockout stages in top spot after ending the regular season in pole position, the highlight being a brilliant 7-0 whitewash of Phil Taylor.

But he is taking nothing for granted as he attempts to defend a title he won for the first time 12 months ago.

“Winning the Premier League last year was a brilliant moment for me and I would love to do it again on Thursday,” said van Gerwen.

“I’m delighted with the way the season has gone and finishing top of the table is a major boost to my confidence.

“I want to try and finish the job off on Thursday night but I know it’s going to be difficult because three other great players have qualified.”

Van Gerwen takes on Gary Anderson in Thursday’s first semi-final, with the winner going forward to meet either Taylor or Raymond van Barneveld in the final later in the evening.

“I’m not even thinking about the final because I know I’ve got a really tough game against Gary,” added van Gerwen.

“He is throwing really well and we have both won one match each when we have played during the season.

“I’m confident and happy with the way I’m playing but it’s going to be a great match against Gary and it will come down to who takes the big shots at the right time.”

Van Gerwen’s fellow Premier League star Simon Whitlock and former world champion Mark Webster are also sponsored by Leyland Paints.

Leyland Paints was founded in 1922 and has a long and distinguished history of affordable, trade quality paints.
