Simon Whitlock in the Premier League of Darts 2013Simon Whitlock is confident he can silence the home crowd when he aims to continue his perfect start to the Premier League Darts campaign against Scottish favourite Gary Anderson on Thursday.

Waterlooville-based Whitlock, who is sponsored by Leyland Paints, opened the Premier League season with a convincing 7-3 victory over twice world champion Adrian Lewis in Belfast last week.

A meeting with top Tartan talent Anderson in Aberdeen is now on the agenda for the ‘Wizard of Oz’, who will be looking to cement his place at the top of the table with a second successive victory.

“Gary is such a heavy scorer that it’s never easy to play against him,” said Whitlock.

“He will certainly have the backing of the crowd and I’m sure they will really get behind him.

“But I’m used to the noise and everything that goes with the Premier League. It doesn’t really affect me so hopefully I can go up there, play my own game and get the right result.”

Whitlock was thrilled to launch his Premier League season in fine style last week with a convincing triumph over Lewis which left him at the top of the early table.

And he is also encouraged that he secured the victory without hitting top gear.

“I think there’s more to come from me in terms of scoring,” said the popular Australian.

“I took out some good finishes against Adrian and I was pleased with how clinical I was on my doubles.

“I know I can improve as the Premier League goes on but to win without playing my absolute best is really pleasing.”

Whitlock was runner-up in the Premier League last year and will be aiming to finish in the top four at the end of the 14-week group stages to once again book his place at finals night in London in May.
