ROBBIE GREEN INTERVIEW - SEPTEMBER 2006

To enquire about booking Robbie for an exhibition or event click here.

Robbie Green is a new face within the professional ranks of the PDC but expect to see more of Robbie in the future....much more.

Hi Robbie, you’re starting to move up in the world and get yourself noticed. What’s been the key factor in this?

Putting a lot of hours in on the practice board and taking it serious. With the money thats coming into the sport now you have to be as professional as possible. I used to see darts as a hobby but now its a potential career.

Tell us a bit about your darts career so far then.

I started playing darts at 15 (I'm now 32). Ii played for my dad's local league team, then joined the superleague and that got me into the Merseyside county team. I won the North West Jnr Championship. I joined the PDC in 2004 and qualified for the UK Open and World Matchplay that year. I qualifed for the UK Open again this year and got to the quarter finals.

You had a pretty good run at the UK Open. What was that experience like?

the uk open is a fantastic tournament with a great format, gives you a chance to take some big scalps,i think i shocked a few people with my performance but it wasnt no supprise to me i put a lot of hours in on the board and was playing very well and felt i could beat anybody.

What are your short and longer term goals?

Short term is to qualify for the World Grand Prix in Ireland, then the World Championship, and try to pick up as much money as possible ready for the rankings change in January 2007. Long term is to stay up in the rankings and make a name for myself.

It must be great working with Phil Taylor, what are you learning from him?

Phil has been great with me. Ive known Phil for a few years now and he has always been there for any advice I've needed. Now he is sponsoring me and im practising with him a few times a week. The man is awesome, even in practice he wants to rip your head off! His commitment is top notch and thats why he is the best.

I'm learning all the time from him - the mental side of things is what you learn from him. He cant teach you how to throw but he can teach you how to prepare.

Do you have a day job?

Yes i am a courier.

Have you had a holiday this summer?

No. We were going to go away to Majorca again but decided to put the money into my darts. Maybe if I win a few bob we will get away next summer.

What is your outlook for the rest of the year?

I only look as far as my next tournament .... but to do as well as I can and keep winning.

And finally, who’s your footy team and how are they going to do this season?

I'm a big Liverpool fan. I used to have a season ticket but missed too many games with being away with the darts. I still try and get to the games when i can - its a good chance to spend time with my kids away from the dartboard. I think they will have a good season. I don't think we will win the league but as long as we put up a good fight I'll be happy. Like darts we need to be consistent.
